Just how durable and resilient is iPhone 6s and Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge?

The iPhone 6s and Samsung Galaxy S7 are good examples of the peak of cellphone devices. These two smartphones represents the highest achievable design any OEM can hope to reach – although, there is probably going to be a new design or innovation that will take away the glory from them.

In addition, these two flagships exemplify the transition from plastic design to the more metallic design of smartphones. However, this same transition can make this kind of device susceptible to life’s mishaps. If one of these were to slip off your hand in an instant, which could be the end of the smartphone – since it will probably be smashed. This of course can be prevented/mitigated, if you invested in a smartphone case.

Water resistance test

In order to help you see to what extent the iPhone 6s and Samsung Galaxy S7 can endure stress tests, SquareTrade, a warranty provider, took them through a series of test involving dropping, tumbling, and dropping. In addition, both smartphones were submerged in water.

After 30 minutes, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge lived up to the promise of the manufacturer – that both are IP68 certified. The two smartphone were able to survive the water test at the depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes! As reported by SquareTrade, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus didn’t fair well in the water test, as both of them lacked waterproof capability. According to the test, the iPhone 6s Plus survived for only 24 minutes, after which it gave out completely. As for the iPhone 6s, the display was ‘water damaged’ and all audio was lost, after it stood for half hour underwater.

Breakability test

However, in the breakability tests, the iPhones came out better than the Samsung Galaxies. According to SquareTrade, the test was conducted in simulation of the drops and tumbling that a smartphone is likely to face in its lifetime. After the first and last drop from the test, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge had their displays completely shattered. However, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus remained unscathed after the two attempts.

Conclusion

Accordingly, SquareTrade ranked the breakability test on a scale of 1-10 with 10 representing the highest risk of breaking in a drop. The iPhone 6s was pegged with a score of 4, followed by Samsung Galaxy S7 with 5, S7 edge with a 6, and finally, the iPhone 6s Plus with a 6.5 score.

It seems that Smasung’s new phone does not have the screen durability to match iPhone. So while the S7 and S7 edge may be perfect for a nice swim, you should not give them a chance to drop.
